St Anthony’s Feast Day

St Anthony is the patron saint of lost and stolen articles; he was a powerful Franciscan preacher and teacher. St Anthony is typically portrayed holding the child Jesus, a lily, or a book, or all three in his arms. Many people give alms to St. Anthony Bread, this is in thanksgiving to God for blessings received through the prayers of St. Anthony.

The Feast of Anthony was celebrated on the actual feast day 13th June at the Italian Village, St Agnes. Father Felix De Candia celebrated the Mass and the home made rolls were blessed. These rolls were made by a volunteer at the Italian Village Mrs Genoweffa Paradiso. The choir of St Francis of Assisi sang during the Mass.

Our CEO Andrew McFarlane, together with Dr De Pasquale, gave speeches on the day. There was an introduction to the new logo Bene. Andrew McFarlane gave a brief explanation regarding the name change and welcomed the guests.

The raffle included the statue of St Anthony which was blessed during the Mass and raffled in the lottery. It was won by volunteer Carmela. She also had a photo taken with Father Felix. The statue was kindly donated by Ivana Beltrame, Manager of Blackwell Funeral at Payneham.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who worked so tirelessly in organising the function.
